I am 66 years old but can still do some 10 to 15 mile hikes to the back country.

I have a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Texas--1967

I served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970.

I am retired but still registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington

I have had a lifelong interest in geology as a hobby and moved to the Big Island in 1998.

I have explored the lava flows extensively almost every week in long hikes to the back country, usually not accessible to tourists.

I have gps locations of hundreds of locations in the back country and thousands of photographs. You can see some of the photographs here: http://volcanochaser.smugmug.com/

I worked for about three months in 2000 as a volunteer at the USGS Hawaii Volcano Observatory (HVO) to help them upgrade and maintain their seismic instrumentation on Mauna Loa and Kilauea volcanoes. You can see my name "Lupe" mentioned in this article by another volunteer who was working with me. I am not in the pictures. http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/volunteer/electronics/rob/main.html

I submitted photographs to the HVO website during lava flows in 2002 that were on top of Pulama Pali and going thru the streets of the abandoned Royal Gardens Subdivision. You can see my name "Lupe" on the address blocks for each picture.

Two photographs for May 15, 2002 and two for May 30, 2002 http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/kilauea/update/archive/2002/May/15-31.html
