Climbing harness and rope visible in canyon ascent
From BearWiki
Claim: A climbing harness and rope can be seen as Bear chimneys up from the slot canyon.
As bear climbs out from the slot canyon, a bulge in the shape of a full-body or upper-body climbing harness can be seen under his shirt, as clearly as his admitted life vest in the Rockies, and reminiscent of his Costa Rica harness.[1] As soon as the rope comes into view, however, the cameraman immediately pulls back so as to hide it from view.
[edit] Analysis
Oppose: True. But not for Bear. Would it make any sense if the film crew also subjected themselves to the same climbing techniques as Bear? No. He ascends and secures climbing equipment for the film crew to follow. The harness is the crew's harness set up by Bear, but Bear is wearing a fanny-pack as well, which is not the harness, as previously pointed out.
- Support: I disagree. Are you suggesting that Bear is leading the route and fixing protection for the crew as they film him? Unlikely. It's more likely that the crew is top-roped, and again, to do this, the shot is carefully set up ahead of time until they move to the next pre-scouted location called for in the script.
- Support: Given the fact that you can see the climbing harness on Bear, that he's been exposed as wearing harnesses before (confirmed), that no scenes are shot from that side, and that you see nobody on that side, I think this theory can be said to hold no water.
Oppose: The pictures are such terrible quality that the results are very inconclusive. The first shot of the alleged 'harness' looks just like a seam in his shirt. The second shot of the 'rope' looks very much like light reflecting off of part of a rock, ESPECIALLY because the two images are at two different angles. If you're going to try to disprove this show, you'll have to try much harder than this, if anything, even from a skeptic's perspective, this is all just laughable.
- Support: If you want greater clarity, watch it in video. Screenshots can only go so far. I'm not sure if a re-edit of this ep has played yet, but in all of the re-edits where he's done climbs before, he's admitted to wearing harnesses.
- Neutral: Yeah... Just watched that particular scene in slow motion. I still say the harness looks like the seam on his shirt, but there's definitely a rope there; you even see it move as he's talking. I'll see about cutting that segment out and keeping it in slow-mo so there's something a little more conclusive than some poor quality screenshots.
- Support: While when he first started to climb, he may not of had a harness, it is quite noticable at the point where the climb looks much more difficult (where he pauses like in the images provided).. and of course between the initial climb and these shots afterwards when the rope is visible, Bear is miraculously dry, only being completely soaked a frame earlier.
