Climbed back up the waterfall after becoming ill
From BearWiki
Claim: Bear, supposedly feeling very ill from drinking contaminated water, goes back up the waterfall.
In the episode Costa Rican Rain Forest, Bear claims to have become very ill from drinking contaminated water that he thought was clean, and backtracks to find a tree that produces a stomach-calming latex[1]. People with dysentery are laid out flat, not climbing up waterfalls; the concept is generally ridiculed on backpacking/survival forums.(example)
[edit] Analysis
Oppose: They never specifically say he re-climbed the waterfall.
- Support: If he could go around, why wouldn't he do that in the first place?
Oppose: He never said he had dysentery. He said clearly all he had was a simple tummy bug.
- Support: There is no such thing as a "tummy bug". Diseases from contaminated water all have names. The most common one in Central America is amoebic dysentery. If you think other contaminated water diseases are any better, think again. Would you rather have cholera, which used to be a major killer? What about giardia, which can give you violent diarrhea for weeks (half a year if lactose intolerant) and generally plague you for years, causing you to lose a third of your bodyweight? Really -- which waterborne "tummy bug" do you think is tame enough that you can climb up a waterfall after being infected?
Oppose: Not everyone who gets diarrhea has aemobic dysentery, cholera or other bacterial infections. It's not unreasonable that you might regain your equilibrium after a long bout of puking.
- Support: It's not necessarily the puking that causes the problems with equilibrium; it's systemic and has more to do with the cause of the puking, not just the symptom (the puking).
