Claim that fishing spiders are dangerous
From BearWiki
Claim: Fishing spiders are not dangerous.
Bear claims that a fishing spider he comes across is poisonous. However, there is no proof these spiders are dangerous. It is true they bite humans, but are very shy and reluctant to bite.[1]. Fishing spider bites are no more serious than a bee sting unless you're an individual who is sensitive.
[edit] Analysis
Oppose: Bee stings ARE poisonous. Just because it wont kill you doesn't mean it's not poisonous.
- Support: I don't think the implication he was trying to convey was that it'll merely hurt a little if you taunt it long enough to bite you.
- Oppose: It's better safe then sorry. A person who has to treat a bite would less likely survive then a person who doesn't
- Support: Please note that the point of contention is not whether or not they are poisonous, but rather whether or not they are DANGEROUS. Daddly long legs are known to secrete some of the deadliest venom known to man, but their mandibles are too small to penetrate human skin, meaning they are a poisonous bug, but not dangerous.
- Neutral: Off topic but I despise misinformation. Daddy Long-legs have venom, but it's hardly potent in any kind of the word. And their fangs ARE long enough to bite you. Think of them in terms of fleas. Fleas are very, very small, but they still manage to bite.
- Oppose: "Please note that the point of contention is not whether or not they are poisonous, but rather whether or not they are DANGEROUS." - The article clearly says "Bear claims that a fishing spider he comes across is poisonous," yet here you are saying the point of contention is whether they are dangerous.
Pedantry: Venom not poison. A poison is a substance that is harmful if ingested, whereas a venom is a substance that is injected via a sting or fangs. You can drink rattlesnake venom.
