Parts of the episode were shot in the Southwest Rift Zone next to the Crater Rim Drive parking area with Jaggar Museum visible in the distance, near the Mauna Ulu viewpoint on Chain of Craters Road, and at the gravel end of Highway 130 near Kalapana. Scenes from the Southwest Rift Zone were visible at the beginning, middle and end of the episode. Scenes from Mauna Ulu were visible near the beginning, middle, and end of the episode. Scenes from Highway 130 were visible midway between the beginning and middle of the episode and at the end. The landing site was in the Kahauale'a Natural Area Reserve five miles downslope of Pu'u O'o and three miles above Highway 130. Jungle location unknown, but likely in the rainier parts of Volcano National Park or the Puna Forest Reserve, near the roads or trails (many potential sites). Pu'u O'o shown in the initial flyover, also in the area, but the area around Pu'u O'o was never shown from the ground.
