Bought pizza in the middle of an ep
From BearWiki
Claim: Bear once went out for pizza in the middle of an episode
According to Ron Hood, one of the survival consultants for the show[1]:
"Sorry Dude, Not true. I know the guy... It's about MONEY and FAME. He makes his dollars on the lecture circuit, lives on a houseboat on the themes. His name is Edward (Ed) and I was told was given the name "Bear" as a nickname to forward his quest for fame. His "adventures" are conducted from a motel room and his stunts are BS. He expressed an interest in getting into politics, least wise that is what I understood from him as he and I drove into town to get a pizza. You are right about one thing, it is not about survival, it is "fear factor" with one contestant and some producers who can lie to the viewer.
Finally, I like him as a person, very personable and intelligent. His ethics with the show are bulimic. I've made that clear to him directly. He said it is Discovery's call. I told him I didn't believe him."
[edit] Analysis
Oppose: Is it just me, or are all of the reports of the crew staying in motels, and ordering food coming from Ron Hood? It's obvious that this guy is mad about something, and until there is more testimony from other crew members, I'm inclined to disbelieve him.
Support: The first accounts to hit the media came from Mark Weinert another consultant.
- Support: And Celeste Cole (also of Lifesong, with Weinert), and various crew members, and the most recent (smoke machines and such on Kilauea) was from Discovery's own internal investigation.
:Oppose: Nothing on this site is very factual when discussing hotel stay. You are making accusations based on posts from a message board. Really? That's your proof? Hearsay and allegations.
- Support: Ron Hood was the show's first survival consultant. This is his website that is linked. He's on the credits to the show -- watch them.
- Oppose: Ron Hood seems to have a personal grudge against Bear and taking his word as proof is ridiculous since Bear's word is the counter argument. Plus, come on he can't even spell Thames...
- Support: If this was an isolated incident you might have a point. But there is plenty of corroborating evidence that Bear’s “word” cannot be trusted. The episodes from Season 1 had to be edited to remove blatant lies. In fact, five episodes from Season 1 are no longer available on DVD and are no longer shown by Discovery. Bear is a confirmed liar. I will take Ron Hood’s word against Bear’s any day.
- Neutral: As much as I find this site's allegations interesting (and largely verifiable), I have to wonder about this one. Where in Ron's quote does it say that he went for pizza with Bear in the middle of an episode? It very clearly doesn't say that, or even imply it. Ron could just as easily have been saying he went for pizza with Bear before or after the filming of an episode, or at some other time completely unrelated to the filming process. Let's either have a direct and clear citation of where Ron says this happened in the middle of an episode, or remove this page and focus on stuff that can be verified.
- Support: As stated in the Standards and Practices section of this site:
- "BearWiki is not Wikipedia. Specifically, the standard is logically-founded reasoning, not verifiability."
- The entire point of Ron Hood’s comments were to demonstrate his personal knowledge of Bear’s “bulimic ethics” regarding the production of this show. Given the context of his statements, it is logical and reasonable to believe he was referring to activities that occurred while The Rockies episode was being shot. Any other conclusion is speculative.
