The Aptera Typ-1 features a roof-mounted solar panel that's flush fit with the top of the vehicle. It charges the battery, offsetting the drain caused by the always-on climate control.[1]. The power output or efficiency of the solar panel is currently unknown

The assembly of the solar panel modules can be seen in the Aptera Factory Tour. The solar panel is covered with laminated automotive-grade safety glass, but Steve Fambro has stated that this was a ease-of-prototyping decision that increased weight.[2] The glass therefore might be changed for the final version.
