Emissions regulation are the reason Aptera Motors changed from using a diesel engine in the Mk-0 to a gasoline engine in the Mk-1 and Typ-1. California uses cutoffs in emissions/volume of fuel, not emissions/distance driven. Therefore, the fuel efficiency is irrelevant in their calculations.
